This piece reimagines the purpose of typographic shapes from words, phrases, and sentences to a visual representation of an old-fashioned brownie camera. The character forms of Baskerville Old Face were systematically stretched, twisted, rotated, and curved to represent common camera shapes. Characters and letters were mixed to create visual interest.
The goal of this piece was to think about design components in a different way than they are typically used. By using an older typeface to depict a traditional film camera in a digital format, the piece compares analog technologies—such as the printing press and film cameras—with new technology and processes (i.e., Adobe Illustrator and the concept of “printing” a digital image).
