Welcome Blanket is a non-profit organization that organizes crowdsourced crochet, knit, and quilted blankets to share as welcome gifts to new refugees entering the United States. They connect people across time and space through individual histories, diversity, and shared humanity, with the goal of blanketing the circumference of the earth with 36,521 blankets and handwritten notes. While their organization makes a profound impact, their website left more to be desired. To improve this, a quantitative and qualitative audit was used to assess current content before making significant changes.
Expanding on critical information learned from a previously conducted quantitative audit, this qualitative audit assessed the content on the Welcome Blanket website for usability, appropriate knowledge level, findability, actionability, accuracy, and other factors. Each piece of content was assessed across these factors including a rating on a scale of 1 to 5 and extensive notes for what did and didn’t fit the criteria. Ratings were totaled and averaged for each content area as well as for each factor. Graphs of the data were created that informed client recommendations.
Intended to be presented to the company’s CEO and board, the presentation element visually depicts the content’s factor effectiveness. An overview of the highest and lowest-ranked content and recommendations to improve these areas for users was included. The presentation design features a format that is clean, easy to read from a distance, and included only key highlights to allow attendees to focus on the presenter.
